BODI DISTRICT LAUNCHES TREE FOR LIFE INITIATIVE
The Bodi District Assembly launched its local version of the nationwide tree planting exercise and awareness campaign on Thursday, 7th June 2025, at the Assembly’s premises. This year’s event, dubbed “Tree for Life,” aimed at restoring over seven million hectares of degraded land across the country.In attendance were the District Chief Executive of Bodi, Hon. Stephen Baidoo, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Charles Christian Lartey, the Juaboso District Forest Manager and some other stakeholders.
Hon. Stephen Baidoo welcomed participants and urged all stakeholders to actively support the “Tree for Life” initiative to help achieve the government's target of planting thirty million tree seedlings nationwide. He called on households, community leaders, and religious bodies to embrace tree planting as a shared responsibility for environmental preservation. He further pledged the Assembly’s full support toward the success of the initiative within the district.
In his brief address to the gathering, the Juaboso District Forestry Manager highlighted the critical importance of tree planting and the pressing need to address the challenges posed by deforestation. He explained that deforestation has significantly contributed to climate change, leading to altered rainfall patterns and overall changes in weather conditions. These changes have an adverse impact on agricultural productivity, leading to increased temperatures and carbon emissions. The manager also mentioned that individuals found engaging in deforestation would face penalties, which would include a requirement to plant a specified number of trees. This approach aims to transform detrimental actions into opportunities for environmental restoration.
A commemorative tree planting ceremony was held following the speeches, where each tree was planted by the Honorable District Chief Executive, the District Coordinating Director, the District Director of the Forestry Commission, along with various stakeholders. This event aimed to promote environmental sustainability and community involvement in reforestation efforts.
